And We Call It

And We Call It……

Sprinkles, drizzles,
Mists and downpours;
Torrents, cloudbursts
Liquid sunshine;
Showers, deluge,
Mists and squalls,
Gully washers -
Thunder showers.

Pelting, pounding,
Soaking, drenching;
Dancing, pouring
Cats and dogs;
Bursting, drifting
Floating, falling,
Coming down
In buckets.

Comes in summer
Rides on thunder,
Comes in autumn
Twirls on whirlwinds;
Comes in winter
Plays with blizzards;
Comes in springtime
Floats on breezes.

Puddles, pools
Of standing water;
Dripping eaves –
Filling gutters;
Celebration
For umbrellas
And we call it…..
RAIN!!!

Hi Kim! What a relief when the heat breaks with rain! Thanks for jumping in puddles with me! So glad you loved this poem. It was such fun to write! We are about to get a week long heat wave and the first warm Fourth of July in years! Usually we have cool weather with fog and wind during the fireworks! Sending you showers of blessings!

Creative lines penned for JCB Burl's poetry contest. I like the way you used the many names for rain in one way or the other. Way to go and congratulations on your winner. Sara K

Hi David! Thank you so much! I do love the rain especially as a child of the pacific northwest who spent many a happy afternoon watching the rain, stomping through puddles and making rain paintings. Sending you blessings and my gratitude.

Hi LJ, Thank you again for your feedback! I always learn so much from your feedback. I am still thinking about the "camera" that looks at the picture of the poem as I write. Thank you my friend!

Being an inveterate northwesterner, I love the rain! I wanted the poem to be as much fun as raindrops and puddles! Thank you for your response and your encouragement! Here's to rainy days!

Sam, I love this one! There is such a playful cadence to it, I bet it's fun to read out loud (let me guess, is it raining where you are?) I particularly like the 3rd stanza with all the seasonal varieties of rains. Keep writing, my friend! ~ John
