The poetry writing has been challenge to me. After spending 60 years in engineering, I took up writing poems. I have 8th grade esl certification from my university, It does not matter to me as long as I can express myself, I like competitions as it gives me topics to write on, marvel at the skill of fellow poets, and encouragement from viewers. I am back again after 10 years of hiatus.

Writing poems for over six years, I wonder why I was never a contest winner, I prayed and prayed to Almighty for a recognition, One night I heard the voice, you have to enter a contest to win. Entering a contest is a big chore, you have to follow so many metaphors, Acrostic, Anagram, Minute poem rules seem so prohibitive, I always thought meter was a measuring scheme. Even if I entered a contest, I would not like to be judged, Poems are my impulsive feelings, they are my treasures, Even my treasure might seem like a junk to someone else, Still, I value my junk, as if it was the best thing in my life. Even if I entered a contest, I would hold my breath, I may come first, I may come the very last, With so many illustrious poets, I don't stand a chance, Still, I would feel good, I entered and felt like a winner.

Jay, the reason I enter contests is because more people read your poem, and if they like it they give you lovely comments that can make a dull day bright. Winning to me is people telling me that they liked my poem, and if I didnt enter it in a contest they probebly would never see it. Enter one and you will see what I mean. Best wishes.

alas, the "winning" is in heeding the call, mounting the stallion, donning the shield and buckler, lowering the lance and pressing the ....submit poem button
