An Old Shovel

I remember when Grandpa used me everyday,
now he has gone far away.
I am sitting here watching the clouds turn gray,
as the family never comes my way.
For Grandpa and me digging was play,
it was fun to hear what he had to say.

My grandfather's used to type letters to me in college with a typewriter in the 80's. The E key didn't work, so my name, Mary Kate became Marikat and that stuck. He was a wonderful golfer and taught me how to putt. Believe it or not 30 years later, I have his putter or his "shovel" in my garage. I'm happy to have found this lovely poem.

Must have been memorable-a snapshot for a lifetime. Don't remember any experiences with my grandfathers. They passed before I knew them. Great piece. Thanks for sharing.

Thanks for your note. Glad you like my OLD SHOVEL write. This was just a write. Not True. I did not have a grandfather. One died before I was born and the other one when I was a few months old. Have a great/blessed day.............

Ahh!! I never had the experience of a grandpa or grandmother so that must have been so nice. I remember when our grandsons were little and some of things they enjoyed doing outside in the garden or just going through the woods. Thanks for sharing this one and for dropping by my page. Sara

How we love our Grandpas. They all taught us something. My Grandpa taught me the fun of using a player… piano. It was a gigantic piece of furniture. Doubtful many poets here’re ever saw one. He was always in a good mood! Before he had to use a cane, he would lead parades. Dressed all in white. I was proud of him.the sweetest mam I ever knew" thank you for your lovely poem Pangie
