An Officer's Heart
Every night I go to work I put on my uniform
Kiss my wife and kids good night then do that to which I'm sworn
I never know what lies ahead on any given night
I could just write citations or be called out to a fight
We cops have gotten a bad rap but if people only knew
We're not out to get them there's so much more we do
We run into burning buildings to save people trapped inside
We try to comfort parents when they learn their kid has died
And when our shift is over and the reports have been filled out
Sometimes we get discouraged and often we may doubt
If this is our true calling or if we need to leave
We too are just human and many times we grieve
But in the end we realize we wouldn't trade a thing
Nothing can compare to the satisfaction our job brings
