An Instrument of Misery
If there is a message
in the dissonant notes
that you drip
moistening my nerves;
lip to ear
I’ve been unable decipher it.
Instead of sharing
your sadness and worry
in a single storm
you wrap me in your humidity
and dampen my spirits
with enactments
of melancholy moods
that demand I withdraw from the sun
and join you while wallowing
in some dismal puddle.
I'd rather brew serenity
and console you
with a cup of sunshine
and a rainbow
instead of being a instrument
you play when miserable.
