An Inquiry Into Poetry

An Inqiury into Today's Poetry

Poems get shorter.
Emails near non existent.
Texts really shrink!
We live in a world of 'xoxo'
Or -)) an amazing, endless list.
Our time, we tell others, is short.
People have to guess what we think?

Time so valuable, our full
baptismal, wonderful names as initials?
Do you fully get that?
The question is existential.
To me, your name is reverential.
"PR" is so very cold, compared to
Panagiota which has spiritual meaning

Why, even our dogs and cats we call by
full name!
We poets claim a connection to the stars,
yes?
Who has ever called Orion, "O" of the moon,
"M'"
Or is that next? I see it coming!

Where did this beast come from?
Who destroyed the English language?
I do not know, it leaves me distressed.
The many languages from whence
our rich English vocabulary comes,
In the trash can of convenience rests!
Now a tragic happenstance.
We've shifted into a brave new world
of Far Eastern poetry.

I am grateful to all poets anywhere,
who have not lost faith in English!
As it developed and are masters with a pen
and it's delegation and know very
eloquently how to use it.
Thanks to you, who unknowingly are keeping
the full beauty of English alive for the coming
generations.
And not selling your heart to fast, one line
poetry.
And I understand some will disagree with me.
I much prefer a fully literate humanity.

I can tell which of my poems are not even worth the
name...."poem". I leave them there as a reminder to
not do that again. Thank you!
Apologies, Panagiota

Hello Panagiota … sadly you have hit the nail on the head with this verse of your meaningful thoughts. This modern world has left me behind in many facets - thank you Panagiota - Lindsay

Libdsay, just watch how you vote. Stay close to God. God is in charge of this world that is meant to end. We are meant to live in peace not here, but in eternity. I did not grow up in a world where you might Die at work or in church. People owned guns then but God and his laws were respected. Panagiota My cousin just wrote me an email similar to your thoughts,...do not vote your rights away! Panagiota xoxo

Much wisdom, WW. I guess it's a rant. To me it's an observation. I do wish I saw nothing. Love from California....Panaggiota

I much enjoyed reading your delightful musings this morning. I also appreciate understanding what I am reading but sometimes (rarely) musicality alone is most endearing.

You are a delight always, my friend. Others are, too. Some waty too esoteric. More like adjectives,))? I know they understand it, I just I can't. Poetry is part of life only. Like some of the best writers here, I always doubt if a poem is i posted is good. I know someone will hate the Poem I love most.)) And that's fine, Panagiota

I see so many interesting types of poetry, new types constantly. I wish we were more open for I would like to see at least four types of poems under each letter. A has many. B at least two. N several. T is a wow. I am pretty open, but sometimes the one liners are confusing to me for I have no idea what they are about. I do think Coleridge and Poe and Dickinson would be stunned.

I have seen comnents to the Houdini one liners where commenters state, " I don't get it." Then HELLO? Commentors! There are thousands of poems here clear as heck. STOP being Mr Nice Guy and responding to ghastly, One liners." Not all one liners are evil. Some seem to come from ganja geeks, no kidding. If I got high, I'd be able to come up with doozies. I am only following poets I can relate to or understand. To each his own. I personally don't see why we can't critique our own poetry.instead of creating new forms. Famous poets wrote Good poetry. Not reinventing the wheel.Panagiota

Well said my friend. I wonder what poetry will look like in a hundred years? Should be interesting. Have a great day.

David, I have thought along the same lines. Jokingly, I imagine it to look like this... Dog(:)k9+food=-)). That is, if any use of more than 6 words is left. If any. Panagiota
