An Innocent Time I Recall

There's an innocent time that I recall when every girl is Cinderella at a bobby-sox ball each guy, a penny-loafer prince in a white letter sweater and the jukebox music keeps getting better A place where the teens are not overly hip where the burn-outs and greasers don't dare give them lip where 350-engines purr under car hoods where heroes are handsome, virtuous and good The Beach Boys are gone now Bobby Vee, Neil Sedaka, Chuck Berry too Hearing their music brings a tear to my eye If I make it to Heaven, I hope they'll drop by

We used to have a 1970 Maverick with "where 350-engines purr under car hoods" - It was fine! I always want a V-10 or a V-8 or a 350, so this made me smile!

The good old days those were... gas for 19 cents a gallon. My first car cost me $50. A Pontiac Catalina with a 350cc engine under the hood. Leaked oil. Used it in my hair. (Yeah, sure) ~ The Fonz

Dear Gershon, truly enjoyed your poem about the "innocent time". I am not very much familiar with the music you have mentioned, but I can very much relate to the sentiment. Warm wishes~ Mala

You have the style of T. S Eliot, especially for this outstanding composition, how much it reminds me of Love Song Of J. Alfred Prufrock by Eliot but with the delightful revival note, that's I loved the most...Silpika.

Whoa... Thank you for your incredible compliment, Silpika. It's amazing to me, as I have not read any T.S. Eliot for 50 years! Appreciate your encouragement greatly! Many, thanks, Gershon

Your powers of observation are indeed acute, Jennifer. I am having a music revival -- proof that ordinary people can come back from the dead! lol. Thanks, gw

Gershon, Such a fine poem from the golden era of vinyl. It was a fine time to listen to the soundtrack of our lives. -Richard

Gosh, I'd forgotten that those old discs were vinyl. And now I remember that my parents bought a large monaural (!) sound system in the mid-50's. We finally bought a stereo system in the mid-60's ~ The Neanderthals

Darlene, I too enjoyed all the musical entertainers whom you mentioned. Here's to the days when music was still about melody, harmony, and lyrics! ~ Golden Oldie
