An Exceptional Friend
You knew how to coax a smile out of me,
I never had a better friend than you, Willy.
The times I'd ignore you, you'd shy away;
but stuck by me, through thick and thin.
When I got sick, you wouldn't leave me
until you were sure I was okay.
And you were happy to share my happiness,
knowing that you are family.
I let you into my heart, where few have been,
and never regretted it for a moment.
But the time has come for me to say goodbye:
to an exceptional friend.
And I know, if such a thing as a doggy heaven exists,
I believe that you, my friend, are undoubtedly already there.
