An Axe To Grind
used for thousands of years to
cut down trees & then to chop them up &
then slice and dice them into
everything from mulch to boards used to
build a plethora of domiciles,
the axe (probably first formed from a crude piece of
wood that was tied to a sharp stone by raw-hide or
the tar of trees)
became used as a
weapon---
what a useful device, the
axe,
with which humans could both build
civilizations
&
tear them down,
within the same
determined
swing.
these facile machines
which when comprised of any metals---
be them bronze, iron, steel or copper,
soon evolved,
partially sliced in half at the top &
was then divided---
they became more efficient in the fight
against trees that were standing
as well as humans that were standing in
the way of
others.
& to digress,
i wonder what kind of axe it was
that lizzy borden chose to use
when she hacked up her parents in
fall river, mass., that august 4th in
1892---
maybe one could ask those that make
pilgrimages to the house
where the murders were committed,
in order to pay
money & then
sleep there
overnight.
ah, america.
