An Autumn Day
It is windy outside the glass, rain, cold, falls softly
Drops like a wet coat on the window, each one a tiny mirror
They dance, shimmer, each one played by the wind
A choreography of water, a production of nature
And this side of the glass sit we together
Warmed by the firelight, in snuggle, close, safe
Enjoying contrast, each moment gentle, soft
Watching the weather as it passes, unconscious of our cosy world
Giving us an ever-changing performance, delighting us in its wonder
As we sit in the audience, unapplauding yet entertained
Grateful of this, our chance to enjoy, to gaze, to wonder
Upon this cold autumn day
