An Almost Poem About You

An Almost Poem About You

You came in like sunlight
that didn’t know it was sunlight,
in through unlocked doors,
full of ordinary things,
making everything feel inordinary.

I didn’t need to be saved,
 but when you laughed,
I stopped writing stupid poems about love
because we didn’t need to be literate

We lived everything,
 in step.
No noise, no static —
in the high and
 through the low,
through charged perfumes of forgiveness,
trailing fights about stupid things.

I didn’t need to be saved,
but here you are.
You came without ceremony,
without knowing,
without trying —
 and stayed.

And somehow, that was enough.
