Amongst Immigrants

Made it in at 10 A.M.
to
see
immigrants who want
   to become
working Americans
Only a lowly college assistant
  yet I have
my share of students
They come from Israel, Bangladesh, Russia, the D.R. and other places
Use a few phrases in Russian, Spanish, Mandarin
         to help them relax
Use the computer
to aid them in their
   studies
The day rolls on
           When no one show up
I write poetry
and post it on the web
I suppose I
   am a little lazy
But not as lazy as some
    Despite the difficulties
 I feel I am
     "making a difference"
  I'm basically pro - union
   but my union
isn't helping me out too much
Well, after a few cups of green tea
   the day ends
HOPE ALL MY STUDENTS PASS

There is no greater profession on earth than that of teaching. A teacher is one who makes changes which are not merely in physical surroundings, but in the spiritual realm, and everlasting, perpetuating into eternity.

Poetry changes lives, helps heal, gives comfort, pleasure and spiritual awareness, inspires, gives encouragement, lends a loving hand to those alone and so much more. You are making a difference, more than you know. M.L. said it so much better. Hugs, Connie

Ah, but we can do so much with a poem...impact so many lives and even make changes.

sweet poem on your life as a college assistant. You are also an ESL teacher, right? I remember in the 80's I got to teach as a teacher at hayward university in CA. That was only for a year or less but quite the job, driving up to a campus each day. Not the best time of my life. It was kind of stressful.
