Amma- Mother

AMMA (Mother)

Amma, when you were with me,
I did not know your value.
Only when you left me,
Did I realise your greatness.

I remember all what you did,
All the sufferings you underwent.
Your never-ending care,
Your honesty and hard work.

Your sleepless nights,
During my days of sickness,
Your sacrificial deeds and struggles,
Your enduring patience.

My exam days were like yours,
Midnight or break of day,
You were there to support me,
Encouraging me to persevere!

Your ways were Simple, Humble,
God- fearing steps taken by you,
Will never be forgotten,
Guiding light of my life!

Above everything else, you taught me,
The power of the Almighty God,
Thanks for enriching my life in a myriad ways,
I am blessed to call you ‘Mother ‘

(Amma means ‘Mother’ in Tamil)

This is a superb poem!! It resonates with me! when my mother was 80 we decided, every moment was precious and and every year a boon. She lived to be nearly 90 yet the loss is unbearable! Your mother could well be mine. well done!!
