America's Signature Grandeur

Sprawling eagles' wings of freedom glean upon this God blessed land.

Huckleberries abound upon rich forest tapestry.

Salmon spawn in glistening waters aplenty.

Indigo mountains are crowned with crisp doilies.

Laughing waves clap upon coastal pebbles and sands,
with dunes designating an anticipated vacation.

Flatlands form the heartland foundation.

Demographically diverse are we.

Prideful skyscrapers collide with weather of every sort.

Churches, temples, cathedrals, and synagogues safely abide in city scenes.

A smorgasbord of aromatic awe permeates food cart streets, as authentic and varied as American souls.

With skin, hair, and eyes preciously unique, we share similar pleasures.

Churros, gyros, spatzle, spring rolls, kielbasa, pizza, and tikka masala kababs burst with awaited flavor.

Aquatic centers, theaters, stadiums, museums, amusement parks, festivals, and malls sprawl
with leisure excitement.

Families thrive as children are taught to read and write and parents sacrificially provide food, clothing, and a sanitary shelter.

We are free to own land, raise animals, and harvest from our garden.

Founded on Christian principles and faith, we work hard to earn our signature grandeur and pray hard to keep it.

Juliet, this is a very good ode, but it is longer than the line limit specified in the contest. Otherwise, I enjoyed reading it. Congratulations on your placement in the contest! Best wishes, Carolyn

Thanks for the inspiration and for the placement. It's a good topic to write about.

Juliet, I think yours so far is the best I have read for its creativity with imagery, etc. Check the rules of the contest if this is for Carolyn's contest. I think she had a limit of 16 lines for it.

Thanks, Andrea. I have to admit, I'd taken a peak at yours for inspiration. I was only thinking of diversity of land, people, and freedom. I hadn't considered the cuisine. I'm not much of a rule follower, so if I get disqualified, oh well. Thanks for the heads up though.

I see you are patriotic about your country and every country has their issues and problems.. i am a big advocate for minorities, and feel everyone should be treated fairly... i do not think that america really lives by Christian principles anymore, far too much hate, just like here in the UK... The media does not help.

Thanks for your comments, Silent One. It sure isn't how it used to be, but I see a lot of love and support in my community and see hate crimes as isolated instances (though they're certainly increasing.) There's a lot of fake news too. They're trying to take away our freedoms, but for the moment I am grateful for all we have.
