America, Where Are You

I don't digress, my search is true
Land that I love, where are you?

The freedoms that so richly rang
From every mountain top
I stretch my ear until I strain
Still I can hear them not.

The pledge we held so very dear
I hardly recognize
Our God who made all possible
We've grossly put aside.

In offense to the forefathers
Some even dare to change
That great time-honored document
The one that bears their names.

How long can we hope to stand
On a foundation grown corrupt
Indeed the blind now lead the blind
We're headed for a bitter cup.

And so I race to find a trace
Of that America
The one I knew and loved so well
When I was growing up

I'll not digress my search is true
Land that I love, where are you?

I LOVE THIS POEM!! America is still here but we aren't trusting God as our founding Fathers did.

Hi Don, "When Special People Touch Our Lives," such a special poem. I loved it very much. It's good to hear from you. I have to say with a sad heart that I miss how America was when I grew up. It wasn't perfect but it was positively a far cry from what it is today. I'm hoping the best for all of us, Reta.

Hi Reta. The America that we love is here within our hearts and it is up to we the people to make this country great. We are America. Each and every one of us. And that spirit starts with us and spreads it's wings across this great land. So, please, look no further than yourself and you will find America in your heart..... Robert.

So true....America has slipped from it's tenets.....expressed beautifully. I hope in the near future you will be able to compose a new poem....America Revisited!

Hello Kim...Life in America isn't what it use to be...instead of moving forward we're headed in the opposite direction. I'm thinking, it's about putting our faith in God and not in man...I think that's the only way forward.
