Notes About The Poem

I don't wish to undermine personal suffering. Suffering happens to all. We all need compassion in our times of discomfort and mourning. This is not an academic issue. This is a real issue dealing with real people. God gave us each other for many reasons, comfort and understanding being a couple of those reasons. As A Christian I can call something evil, because of the unchanging Character of God. That's my standard. What is the arbitrary standard of someone who says that the objective proof [God's invariant character] doesn't exists? Moreover, what hope is there in a view that says things just happen? Might makes right? Is what one animal does to another animal, irrelevant? I don't find much compassion in matter and motion.

The emotional and psychological proof for God’s existence is that contrary to His existence people will delude themselves into thinking that God can’t exist because of some personal trauma or the general happenings in the world (things such as the Holocaust, infant death, the senility of old age and the general unfairness in lives lived unsuccessfully). We can’t always trust our emotions because with equal sincerity we can ask whose mind do we follow if we don’t have an absolute standard of good to wage things by? With the ambivalence of mind that hates God but doesn’t profess to believe in Him? How do we arrive at an objective standard. We need a impartial and fair Judge. Well, we have the mind of Christ says the Apostle Paul. Is God just a projection (as Freud arbitrarily stated), just a wish fulfillment of a child’s mind? So, Freud stated this. He stated it arbitrarily. Freud doesn’t know every aspect of every mind that ever existed.

God is proven to the impossibility of the contrary. How is this proven. Look at any non-Judeo-Christian system of thought. Mohammed wrote in the Koran that Allah is so transcendent that we cannot know anything about him in human experience. OK, if that is true, what is the Koran? Is it not in human experience? That’s just one example of how non-Judeo-Christian worldviews crumble.

As Christian we understand that sometimes God chastens those He loves. We also understand that God governs all things, at all times. Yes, even the evil of this world. God makes all things work out for the good for those who love Him.

Ambivalence

There once was a mind in despair
That judged the world harsh and unfair
Through trauma and grief
It rejected belief
Yet still cried for justice and care

If feelings alone lead the way
(They shift with the night and the day)
So whose mind should decide
What is wrong, what’s right
When emotions can darken or sway?

To measure the good and the true
A Standard must stand over you
Not anger’s demand
Nor a wavering hand
But a Judge who is righteous all through

Some say God’s a wish of the brain
A child’s projectionism, lain
But Freud could not see
Every soul that would be
So his claim is arbitrarily plain

The proof then is pressed in reply
Deny Him and reason runs dry
For worldviews opposed
Leave foundations exposed
And collapse when their claims reach the sky

Resolution:
This one faith puts Jehovah on high
(So cling to Him while He is nigh)
And Its book makes a claim
That without Him, disdain
With an ambivalent heavy sigh
