Interesting choice here and it shows the strength of mind of the person before the poem starts.. Best of luck in the contest.

I do see the wisdom of your comment though.. the narrator's strength was always there. In the poem, it just had to be reimagined to be rediscovered..

The poem is introspective and explores the bravado one wears when one is broken by circumstances in life until they come to terms with their past. Maybe that exploration requires a "born lioness" heart after all.. but in the beginning of the poem the narrator feels anything but a lioness. In the end, emotional epiphanies and acknowledgement of one's detrimental life choices, whatever the circumstances, do require bravery. My hope was to bring the poem full circle, back to a positive fulfillment of the first line

Why would it be sarcasm?

Dear Silent One, is it strength of mind or sarcasm or realization? I think this opening line can be deceptive at first glance. The poem tells the tale. I hope you give it a read, my inspiring friend. Thank you for your wonderful visit and poetic encouragement, both are truly appreciated. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

I love that line, kind if reminds me of my cousin, a leo that is a lioness strong independent and fearless and not many can tame her heart. Pleasure reading this. Best wishes in the contest
