Am I Okay?

I’m here.
They know I am.

I will always
be there.

Until I’m not.

They ask if I’m okay.

They don’t investigate

because I say
I’m okay

after bleeding
all over them.

They pretend

I’m

okay.

Nothing hurts quite like
opening up to someone

only for them to stand
speechless

as they watch your guts
spill onto the floor.

I pour my heart out.
I paint the room red.

It sprays and it sprays

until it looks like
I’m dead.

My beautiful silhouette,
painted in crimson,
painted in ink.

I’ll stop now
before the room starts to sink.

Where’s my cigarette?

One second...

Oh, yeah.

There’s the bayonet.

Oh...

Okay.

I was just trying to learn

the alphabet.

Why am I here...
That’s not even a question.
It’s more or less

a statement.

What’s the word for that?

Don’t even bother.
You don’t care.

Why would anyone
even be there?

My problems?
They’re all over the floor.

They step around them
and ask me again

if I’m okay.

I say I am.

They pretend

that’s an answer.

Apparently,

we all have our worries.
We all have our grief.
We all have our problems
buried underneath.

What a relief.

I’ll be here.
But maybe

not

there.
