Am I Emo
We could not communicate, because she spoke a language
I did not speak. Six people tried to help her before anyone called for me.
I do not remember why.
Maybe because I am a crone, a has been.
I saw her tears and I knew I was the one.
I took her hand and led her to my office.
I shut the door in the other one’s faces.
Then I phoned the only person I know who speaks Spanish.
I put her on the phone. She cried and cried.
I slid her onto my lap and she cried with me because I cried too.
The others had left, feeling foolish now.
I know because I have a counselors glass walls, so I could see them.
I am not supposed to put grown women on my lap.
I did not care.
My friend came and whisked her and her son away
To a women’s shelter, a safe place.
Am I an empath?
What do you think?
