Am I Deserving

Am I deserving
Or am I not
Do I deserve to behappy or do I not
Or have I lost the plot

Once I start asking, how do I stop
And am I worthy of a place at the top
Or should I to the bottom drop

Are others more deserving of a slot
And how do I the difference spot
Are we all equally deserving or not

Should I plot another's downfall to get to the top
Or should I be grateful for what I have got
Even if I feel I deserve the lot

Am I deserving or am I not
Can you help me or not?
Or are you in the same spot

Could it be that the question is a load of rot?
And ask it we should not 
As it will lead us away from our friends a lot

So am I deserving of any slot
Sometimes yes and sometimes not
The only thing I can safely plot
Is helping others a lot.

Just did radio interview around running for Mayor of Lower Hutt. Interviewer asked me to read my democracy poem Three gifts on air and it will be read at local library as part of Poetry week.
