Alzeimers

The love they shared it could never be matched
fifty years spent together til the memory lapse
and to penny and Jack ya see it came as a shock
and no one else in the family really knew how to react
dad was out for a drive to get some bread and some snacks
the cops bought him home lost apparently his head it went blank
thought he would never get back
but as soon as he did he hugged mum so tight
u knew they'd be forever attached
but as time passed mum watched the gentleman that
she fell in love with decay with everything that he had
she tried not to fall apart and never be sad
even keep her face brave for penny and Jack but penny and jack
could see the definite cracks on her face
as their mother tried to pick up the slack
she tried so hard til it was bending her back
knowing that she was close to an eventual collapse

Hi Richard, first of all welcome to Poetry Soup, now this is one terrible disease, I worked with the elderly for many years and this I came across so many times, it is horrible especially for someone who has spent nearly their lifetime together and loved, you have written this so perfectly. take care......Vera
