Always You

When you gaze at me with your face
full of flavor....creases left by time
etched deep near those dark
mesmerizing eyes that still manage
to undress me....I feel the heat.

White stubble peeking from your strong
chin counts the years
matching the white wings in your hair
still rich with thickness.

How kind the years have been to you.
Your deep voice still captivating anyone
within earshot; a voice I Iove best
when you speak softly.

You wrap me in your worldly knowledge,
yet my desire for sweet nothings
seduces my senses.

I still see the tower of the man I married
so long ago, the man who swept
me off my feet with one glance
and I drown in that romance.

In Nabokov's novel "Ada" there is an episode where lovers exchange encrypted messages. In their language, "the tower" meant happiness. It's great, Connie)

I love this so much I have to FAV it. It's true, when in love age fails to diminish how beautiful a man is to the woman who loves him. This is deeply flattering, as only a fluttering heart that truly knows their subject, can speak. Love the love, love the sentiment in each stanza ... CayCay

Thank you Arthur. Marriage is an on going commitment from both parties. Both have to be willing to put the other first. That happens with us even though we are polar opposites. : )

Great poem Connie, uplifting read for me this morning. I'm in for the long haul, love is not a feeling its an act of the will. Thank you for sharing. Kind regards, Craig

What a beautiful poem of love. And lasting love at that !! You are one of the lucky ones......but love like this, takes time, work, patience, understanding and commitment. I applaud you and the man who deserved this poem !! :)
