Notes About The Poem

Always Forgive Your Enemies

To arms! Many arms were waving, wildly flailing in the air
Incensed as if there'd been bowling pins missed for a spare
Screaming and ranting about things that didn't seem fair
Oh puhlease! As if it matters or as if anyone gives a care

If the truth were to be told, then everyone should confess
and state unequivocally that they couldn't give a fig less
Nothing written or done should be the cause of distress
when so many things in La La Land are already such a mess

"Always forgive your enemies; nothing annoys them so much,"
words of Oscar Wilde, is he suggesting using a gentle touch?
No, just an offering to those who require the use of a crutch
the feathered friends who flock together, flying in their clutch

The high tides of bitterness continue to crash upon the shore
With a forgiving nature and long ago, I stopped keeping score
That should've stifled the animosity, but there's always more
Their wrongs aren't worth a fight to make them right...candor

Enemies are easy to forgive, harder to forgive a betrayal from a friend

Dear Lin, This one is a riot of truth dressed up in satire and sass. I say it's like standing in the middle of a shouting match and realizing you’d rather be sipping tea somewhere quieter. There’s so much sharp wisdom tucked in for it’s rebellious, and it’s tired, and it’s gloriously done. As always with admiration (and maybe some bowling pins), Me. Summer Blessings, Dear Lin, Daniel

We can bowl anytime, Daniel. For now, join me on one of our New Orleans' wrought iron balconies as we sip cafe au 'lait, share an order of beignets and watch the screamers rant and shout at each other. We're above the hoopla... literally and figuratively. "Satire and sass," great title for another poem. Thank you for the admiration and know that it's kindly and respectfully returned.

Heya Lin, I think you know my thoughts on this subject already, I always treat others with the same respect or contempt they show me, I do get what you’re saying here though, to perhaps (choke) your enemies by not giving them a reaction lol! Works either way for me (choking them that is) nicely written piece, cheers David

I know your thoughts quite well, David. Choke, smother... whatever works to staunch the flow of blood or breath, for not quite long enough. Attention seekers deprived of attention... works for me.

They see, but never themselves as the aggressors. Blindness has another name.

Lin, it does seem amazing how distressed some become over a difference of beliefs. Hopefully, we can enjoy the differences and not get flummoxed. You happen to be a fabulous poet and I hope others can appreciate that. Most of us certainly do. I do like how you describe some of the hysteria. It’s very funny really to read. You’re making me chuckle. Perhaps calm will prevail and we can write about and enjoy the wonders of the universe.

Flummoxed, I never get when being put down. It's not bewildering to me why some people seem to be obsessed with trying to rile me... it never does because like you, I smile when they take a stab with a pen. You mention that it's hysteria, and hysterical to hear about things that are said about me. I don't read gossip columns nor get distressed over trivial things. Thanks for being you, Duke.
