Always Afraid

I’m always scared,
I’m always at guard
my heart, from pain
skin from scar
she’s always in arms,
but given to such
Need to love
passion to clutch
true, unchained
naked, ashamed
we’re both afraid
we count up the gain
the loss, the fuel
To carry us there
in creation’s direction
distance, fare
We drag on the castle
stilts on wheels, slaved
afraid
dreading the kill
always scared,
bandaging scars

always afraid
always so far
