Always...

Shakespearean Sonnet

The waves still roll and crash upon the shore,
and trees grow old and tumble to the ground
~ forever means the same just like before,
except that now...it circles all around.
The memories of years are joined as one
and always is a promise never made,
as fate will follow everywhere we run
to mix within the silence it invades.
So fickle is the future as it holds
the secrets of our lives already known;
within the heart of truths that it enfolds
where hidden seeds of absolutes are grown.
     But ~ what of waves and trees we've never seen?
     Could they still be just always as they've been...

I thoroughly enjoyed reading this beautiful sonnet, the questioning emotions are palatable. For me, there is also a frustrating angst.

Thanks so much Nette, nothing shakes our world like losing family, it's surreal -- I must be thankful for all the years she was here...

A moving elegy that uses the enduring rhythms of waves and trees to contemplate memory, fate, and the elusive meaning of “always.” The Shakespearean-sonnet structure lends the tribute a graceful formal steadiness, while the final couplet opens tenderly into wonder, hope, and remembrance. Sorry for the loss .. your sonnet causes a eye to tear, as I remember my mother.❤️

Thank you dear Inky....the last line is the only one not in perfect meter---I didn't want it to be...because...life, and these times rarely are no matter - no matter--Hugs
