Wolves travel in packs, a few
Represented by an alpha male who
Is always leading the pack to a greater good
Where they can find food and shelter
With a chance of surviving the forest’s greed
For taking them on a journey to the realms
Of death, dying with only the few of them
To grieve the loss of one who’s demise
Has been a mere lack of nutrients
Or the possible meeting of a hunter’s arrow
Everyday is a challenge to make it through
Without the loss of one or two lives
They reach out toward each other with hope
For the opportunity to give insights
Into things like hunting, fishing and giving
All the attention to living that they can give
With assurance that giving their best to one another
Is their greatest asset in these deep woods
Where bear, deer and coyote meet and mingle
Hoping for a chance to be given the gift of living
The wolves run together, but it is the alpha
Who performs the last rites when they have died
And it is also him who leads them together
Toward the brightest moonlight to hunt their prey
And discover the light at the dawning of day
It is the alpha who gains the good ground it takes
To reach the level of ridges and peaks that portray
A place of reassurance and benevolent grace
Where God has placed them to find life’s ways
