Alone In the Dark

It's so hard to be brave 
sitting alone in the dark
when every little sound 
can give you a start
  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~
Then something moves 
and you know not why
in your own mind you're
sure you're going to die
  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~
Is it a ghost or a demon 
or some other imp of hell
or just your imagination
sometimes it's so hard to tell
  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~
Goosebumps run wild
and your heart starts to race
you are too scared to run
the terror shows on your face
  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~
You hear it draw nearer 
then the scratching of claws
you sit shaking in the dark
awaiting that tooth filled maw
  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~
You squeal like a little sissy girl
when you hear a hiss and a spat
and the evil for which you wet
yourself was only that darn cat
  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~  ~
