Alone, Alone

"Alone, Alone"
           By Rachel Heffington

Often, often I have wondered
At the dusking of the night
Where my love is wand'ring, wand'ring
While I stand in shimm'ring light.

Standing, standing, waiting only
For the day God brings him here,
He to view me, lovely, lovely,
And to whisper something dear.

Daily, Daily I have waited
Pledging heart and hand to one
Who will find me, faithful, faithful
At at the rising of the sun.

Rising, rising, ever upward,
And my heart on wings will soar
As I see him, waiting, waiting
For me on the glimm'ring shore.

Throbbing, throbbing--heart's own day-dreams
Stab and squeeze my heart anew,
At the beauty, precious beauty
In this sketch, my love, of you!
