Alone Again, Naturally

The tapping keys are calling
but in the background buildings
loom - duty's calling
I repose, think

Two for the show and one for the road.

You must go it alone, you must!
You know other things too -
like promises mingling with dust,
like August without summer, that

Requiem for what's dead is only
procrastination -
when life's arms of sunshine
fill you with dread.

Two for the show -
one for the road.

great melancholy poem. Just like the song by the same title, which I really loved. And I guess you are from my era since you know of Bread!! yes, they were a wonderful group.

Oh, when I saw the title of this poem, I kept thinking of the song by the same title, it's running through my mind as I read this, Sherese. Do you weave? Interesting that you've ended it with"Two for the show-one for the road". Melancholy ending. Best wishes!!!! Mikki
