Alone

I gaze upon the star-sprinkled skies
The blue-black quilt lying over felt hills
And sounds so solemn yet distant
As if shouting to the world “here is someone alone”!
The moment passes on soft footsteps
And my despair neatly folds into the stack of yesterdays
A new day will awaken the birds
And I will be here to hear them sing
No longer alone in my thoughts
