Almost Love

you were NEVER mine...

yet

I felt you slip through
my aching fingers,
like arthritis longing
to be healed.

you are my rose never picked-
       yet the thorns deeply pricked

I endured the sorrow of
a death that never died-
for you are my wound
that was never cut,
and I am virtually scarred...
                    FOREVERMORE.

saturated in ebon loss without
you even knowing I exist,
I drown in tidal cascades of
knowing you will never see
my perpetual eyes.
and oh-
the way they look at you.

so I say to thee like
            a fleeting ivory dove,
            you know me not-
            but you're my ALMOST LOVE...

Lu Loo, congrats on your win on mile 6 of my 2019 Poetry Marathon contest! I don't know what's worse, experiencing an "Frozen Farewell" like Greg wrote about, or enduring an "Almost Love." Yikes! Passionately piercing, poignant and painful! Brilliant! A Fav for me. ~Mark
