Almost Angel

almost angel

rock and roll rookie
sings angel songs
on the corner of paradise street.
silver dollars and frankincense
tossed into a halo from
the nearby five and dime.

voice so sweet and blue
brings a tear to god’s eye.
hangs around heaven’s gate
checkin out the latest inmate
lookin' for a bass guitar
to swing.

rock and roll rookie
sings angel songs
a heavy beat
on the corner of paradise street
silver dollars and frankincense
tossed into a halo from
the nearby five and dime.

voice so sweet and blue
brings a tear to god’s eye
even the heavenly host cry
hangs around heaven’s gate
checkin out the latest inmate
lookin' for a bass guitar
to swing.
