Almost A Poem

I want to write a poem, but I'm no poet.
I can't make words sing,
or draw a crowd to listen.

A blank page stares back at me,
patient as stone,
while the ink slowly dries.

I would write a song,
but what I need to say cannot be sung.

It catches in the throat,
somewhere between thought and voice.

Perhaps it rhymes.
Accidentally, of course.
I swear I wasn't trying.

If this is a poem,
I'm just as shocked as you.
