All Things Great and Small
as a boy
I thought much of paddling across an ocean
just as then
i would explore barefoot
shallow streams
as if they were mighty rivers
carrying home proudly
a jarful of unnamed water-bugs
looking back on my travelling life
how it has traversed
both oceans and seas
i deem it significant
that those fascinating objects
I carried home
from foreign fields
we’re not more important,
nor more exceptional
then a jar of muddy creek water
held up to sparkle in the sunlight
