All The Lonely People

All The Lonely People
All the lonely people are everywhere
and they are boys, girls, men, women, young,
middle-aged, old, rich, not-so-rich, poor,
smart, not so smart, educated, uneducated,
happy, sad, single, not single, pious, impious,
into sports, not into sports, cultured, not cultured,
a parent, not a parent, law-abiding, not law-abiding,
cares for others, does not care for others
could care less and cherish stillness.

There is a lonely, large island, and the
not lonely folks want the lonely people to
get the hell out of their way and
vamoose to the lonely, large island
where they can be lonely together.

The not-lonely folks can then go about
their merry way with enthusiasm and camaraderie
and not have to fret over an accidental encounter with a lonely person,
sitting alone and still, on a bus, train, or plane.

The not-lonely folks
will feel it only right
they can party all night
and out of sight
of all the lonely people.

The not-lonely folks
live in fear of becoming
one of the lonely people
and when their time of loneliness comes
and you know it will
the flights are always ready
to take them to that large, lonely island
and they must remember to be still.

John, Keep hearing the Beatles ornamental musical lamebt 'ah..., look at all the lonely people'. Your poem resounds in mystic melancholy refrain. -Richard
