A step too far, brings right of passage to a ledge Fluttering at cliff walls, pushing life’s brittle edge A sheer instinctive thrust, with no trust to pledge Now or never moment, undermines fear’s wedge A chick leaps off, flailing frail wings fail to fledge Featherweight of hope meets a ten-pound sledge Crashing straight down, no safety net to dredge Next guy flaps like mad, landing softly in a hedge

Pushed the boundaries and plenty of luck can minimise any negative outcome, never giving up helps too, quite a thought provoking verse David. Good luck in the contest and enjoy your weekend. Tom

Very true Tom, sheer determination only goes so far, some luck is indeed needed to get through this life in one piece, it’s such a fine line though, and impossible to predict, have a great weekend too, cheers David

Wow! Read this after recording the audio for my Iron Maiden one - so my mind is in an almost spiritual space. It feels a little like two same but very different meditations on emergence. The saving by a trust fall within both, yet yours gives a 50/50 chance & suggests having wings might not be the key. Is it fate when things work out or merely luck? I fear edge after edge after edge yet never perfecting the fall. Chance is a funny thing though that we have more control of than we often think.

Thank so much Dilly, I guess we are the byproduct of things that go wrong and right in our lives, we have control over some to a certain degree by using our brains, although bigger gambles need a wing and a prayer, which is probably the case when driven by instinct, I put some nuanced wordplay into this one, some in your face, some more subtle, I’m unsubtly delighted with your enthusiasm and fave, cheers David

There's so much to think about in this one. As one realisation clicks, I'm already scrabbling around just about grasping some more... Think I'd better fave.
