All I Can Ask

Who are you to judge me?
Who are you to condemn me for my life?
I may not think the way that you do
I may not worry about global issues
When I see a man starving on a street corner
I may not see the world through your eyes
Does that make me less than you?
Why does it bother you that I see a song in the petals of a flower?
My reality is my own
It doesn’t harm you in any way
Or does it make you question your own?
It is through words, pictures and song
That people like me use to make the world better
The next time you hear a song
Think of me and my vision of the world
And as you sing along or tap your feet
Then judge me
Condemn me
As long as you sing and tap you foot
That is all I can ask
As evil as my life is to you
At least you hear my words and enjoy them
No matter what you say about me
You respect my words, my music
And that is all I can ask
