Notes About The Poem

This is not meant to be a judgement for those of you who enjoy drinks sometimes.

We have all heard the stories. Uncle "Mr. Cool" comes over, tells the 9- or 10-year-old "I have a drink that will put hair on your chest, make you a man..." the kid takes a drink and that is the early start of him becoming an alcoholic. Maybe a person has a great job or invents something cool and starts with a drink of celebration.. And then later in life they die a death that should never have happened, because alcohol destroyed everything they worked for. Maybe that person is in the family. Maybe its the musician who made it big for a time then alcohol tanked their career. Either way this is meant to be a message.

Sometimes the mastermind
Sometimes the butcher
Alcohol.

Sometimes the genius
Sometimes the imbecile
Alcohol.

Sometimes the blanket
Sometimes the suffocation
Alcohol.

Sometimes the spark
Sometimes the wildfire
Alcohol.

Sometimes the dibber
Sometimes the uprooter
Alcohol.

Sometimes the jamboree
Sometimes the funeral
Alcohol.

It was never the first
Never the warmth.
It was the last
And the end was explosive.
