Alcatraz
Alcatraz
By Kevin Robey

The ultimate joke, I realized today
We’re all prisoners of our own minds
No matter what we do or what we say
We can’t face the answers that we find
We buy, we steal, flashy rims and wheels
To cover our debts, ironic but true
Maybe it’s why this haze seems so surreal
But I don’t see myself in the shiny and new
I see blank white walls and all that they bring
Questions without answers that I ask at night
Staring at the ceiling fan, I can almost hear it sing
Angels freeing me from the chaos of the fight
It’s all that we bring, the questions we’ll never sing
Speaking in silence as we walk on worn paths
Dancing without music like puppets on a string
Lost souls in this world with a haunted past
Maybe we’ll never answer the questions we bring
This is my journey, but it could never be yours
One day we’ll be free of our aimless minds
Till then I know that’s it’s ok to simply want more
