Alaska the Rarest Gem

Alaska The Rarest Gem

                     Salmon imitates plunging dolphin movement
Bald eagles chase ptarmigan above escarpment
Under an ice floe a pod of whales cleverly meander
Orcas upon foamy crest slow dancing within the water

Heavily encrusted snow peaks visibly distant
Scaling sacred Denali devout worshippers chant
Beneath the treetops caribou nurtures an offspring
Pack of arctic wolves predicts the emergence of spring

                      Majestic spruce envisions forest conservation
Mother and cub grizzly defy lengthy hibernation
Precipitous bluffs mesmerize surefooted Dall sheep
Black bears hanging on branches curled up half a sleep

Gooseberries profusely bloom on verdant hill
Red spotted trout watches flies pester a squirrel
Sled dogs eager to mush worship their Zen master
The elements may give comfort or conjure up disaster

                      Shimmering raven wings illuminating heaven
Totem pole standing tall amid villages unshaken
Kayaks laden with furs trappers trade among elders
Residents in igloos visualize pelts of otters and beavers

Stealthy halibut surveys the seabed contours
King crab warriors land their loads unto harbors
Women and children dangling fishes in smokehouses
Tears of sadness will their way of life to forsake changes

Beyond storm clouds Big Dipper gazes below
Baby sea lions ponder where they can safely go
The Northern Lights an astounding view up in the sky
Overwhelming joy emanates questions of when and why

Descending icy streams race undulating river
Pine needles defiant parched alder leaves wither
Moss and lichen cling steadfast above slippery pebbles
Alaska is the rarest gem in modern fairy tales and fables

Very nice! I have always wanted to visit Alaska. The one state I haven't been to. I enjoyed this. :)

Thanks for the comment and visit Heidi! If you take the Inside Passage journey on a cruise ship, it'll give you a wide panorama of this beautiful wilderness paradise. Whether you go on land or at sea, this place definitely exhilarates...ab

You can never really describe the beauty of a scene, until you are in the midst of it, feeling the air, sensing the presence of life and standing firmly on its ground. Always a pleasure hearing your thoughts!...ab

I like to read about the 'real Alaska,' i.e., what you've written about. People need to get past 'Sara Palin.' lol. Thanks, Anselmo.

I had the fortune of living in the state for a time, so I was able to absorb and indulge in it's majestic beauty. I appreciate your comment always Debx!...ab
