Notes About The Poem

Alas

He was good to you when d e s p e r a t i o n held your hungry hand, ...when the sky fell in on... your grieving head, he married you, gave you all he had ,yet like a female praying mantis without regard for my brother, you consumed him!

A sad metaphorical twist in this lovely Etheree Connie. It is sad that so many are consumed by their mates insatiability. Congrats on your placement in this contest

An amazing metaphor in your 'mantis' poem, Connie! Congratulations on your fine placement on this Premiere Contest's short list of winners! 7 Hugs, Sandra

I felt more comfortable writing a metaphor than writing about the insect itself Sandra, though I know we have them here in Hawaii because I got a visit from one in the morning. They move slow enough that I am not afraid of them. They are kind of cute! Thank you very much. : )

Hi Connie, an excellent metaphorical write for the contest. I do hope this one does well for you.It is sad the way people can act. As Nicola says people often consume those closest to them. Why we have to be that way beats me. I have never seen a praying Mantis live, so to speak. This write should do well Connie, reads like an absolute winner, but i am not the judge. Anyway, wishing you well in the contest once again. Hugs....Mike. XX. This is a definite seven and a well written fave.

They are quite cute as insects go Mike. They move slowly, do not jump on you like grasshoppers do. I saw one on my balcony chair one morning. I said hello and it just kept sitting there looking cute. I took it as a good omen. Wish they didn't consume their mates. Thank you so much for your encouraging comments and especially for the fave and 7! Blessings, Connie ; )

One early morning I rose and went out on our balcony and I found a praying mantis just sitting on our chair. I took it as a good omen. I said hello and then came back inside. It was cute. Thank you Lynn.; )

What a great use of personification with this fun insect, Connie. Fun looking but deadly!! Glad to see an etheree from you. I used an oldie I had of a praying mantis. A tiny senryu. probably won't make the list.

I am not sure what he is looking for. I just felt like I could say all I needed to in this Etheree. Thanks Andrea. Best of luck in the contest. You have been on top of so many lists. Congrats on any I may have missed. Hugs, Connie ; )
