Air Turbulence

The pastor whispers, ashes to ashes- dust to dust.
As a pilot says, there'll be a little turbulence in the bus.
But in the throng, there are ripples of panic and madness
,, people spitting up grit with every quivering breath.
Now it's a game to see who can hold it together.
While beating back death's momentum...
As the plane rocks back and forth
as the pastor stumbles over the word,
everyone's dusting off a soothing prayer
while looking down into the throat of the earth.
