Ah, Wanderlust

Ah, Wanderlust, my soul for you burned hot! When fresh and filled with fancy, I could not sit still for long, for I was wont to flee the simple life with its monotony. The moon and stars were mine (or so I thought). In college when I turned eighteen, I bought my ticket to that thrill I’d always sought in lands I’d only read of, far from me; Ah, Wanderlust! Were life a novel, mine would have its plot heat up significantly when I got to Europe; wondrous sights I was to see. Romance I even found! But destiny has deemed adventure would not be my lot. . . Ah, Wanderlust! Written 8/15/14 by Andrea Dietrich for the Wanderlust Poetry Contest of nette onclaude

Oh, how those places call ... they still do and I hope to make my way to some of them before I die. Life makes turns we do not anticipate...and here we are. Congratulations on your win, Andrea.

Very well done and congrats, Andrea! Glad you managed to travel at a young age; that will forever remain with you. Work and married life do not leave much time for wandering, but once retiring age arrives make good use of:) // paul

Ahhh . . . I called my wanderlust years my lost decades, and although I never made it to Europe I was able to see man/woman-kind at their best, but mostly at their worse. I got the gist from this very well written poem, Andrea. No place like home, except for those like me whose home was never a home. Still, it was better, much better than those I had a chance to see up close and personal.

I have not traveled to Europe. However,I have been out of the country - to Israel - to Canada and to numerous Carribean countries. Have you been to NYC? It is an amazing place - but very bourgeois. Still it is my hometown. Wanderlust - I feel it coming on NOW.Nice write! Peace &Love Matthew Anish

Nice poem my friend, I'm trying to grasp what it would have been like to turn eighteen and Europe be a thrill instead of waiting for my draft notice..to have had that freedom..I envy you my friend..good luck in the contest..you'll do well

Nice job, like the use of the Germanic term Wanderlust, you might like Heine !
