Aging Is--

Leaving the spotlight to others
   Not insisting on your druthers

Accepting your physical limitations
   Part of life's peregrinations

Stopping to smell all the roses
Reveling in what fine prose is

Staying in touch with every dear friend
Living each day as if it will never end

Downsizing all things material
   Focusing on the ethereal

The opportunity for which you've been living
   Dedicating yourself purely to giving

If this is not a top-dog-in-the-winners-circle-winner, then I do not recognize a GREAT poem, and I rather think I do. "Downsizing all things material Focusing on the ethereal The opportunity for which you've been living Dedicating yourself purely to giving" I wish this were true of all old ones, because there would be a lot less depression.

Here's to less depression! Here, here! … And thank you for your support. Have to confess that I've come to expect to get an N/A on every contest entry these days, and am fairly shocked when I don't... It's OK. I'm just in the N/A cycle now. Perhaps the Rinse cycle is next. Who can tell? :) :) gw

Oh my goodness, I can so very much identify with the sentiments of this piece (chuckle, chuckle)! This is truly what we experience as we grow older! Lightheartedly and cleverly expressed, I love it! Best regards and hugs. Pandita

Who's we, Pandita? I, for one, am not growing older... I've already landed there! LOL. What can we say? --Perhaps that we're not getting older; we're getting better! :) gw

Yes, it is an Rx alright. The question is: Can you afford the co-pay?! LOL. Thanks for the kind words, my friend. Best always, gw

Compared to 'Youth is--' ---Let's not go there. We busy ourselves with counting our blessings. (Youth has no time for such a mundane pursuit). ~ Grown old in Chicago
