Age

Picture for an instant if you can,
A time specific lifespan of the average man,
Imagine a life time set in years,
Say, 75 in total, for you and your peers.

Fix in your mind a definitive figure,
Hopefully a process will begin to trigger,
Three precise periods take centre stage,
Youth, Adult Prime and lastly Old Age,

From birth to twenty-five you feel Alive,
The next stage up to fifty you strive to survive,
Needless to state the final third is a minor stage,
It doesn't really count, just like the Old Aged.
