Against the Grain
I used to be strong and defy your pompous authority,
I used to ignore your misplaced power,
but now stuck in this rabbit's cage,
I too am a puppet on a string
I used to stand up for the things I believed in,
but now I give way and bow to you superficial pressure ,
I've forgotten what it's like to work and be strong,
and now I sit around, a man of leisure
I used to see everything, a rainbow of colours,
but you have shown me it's either black or white,
I used to believe you wouldn't break me,
but cut me now and I will bleed
You have shattered my pride,
ravaged my mind,
and tortured my thoughts,
well I may be down for now but slowly, surely I will rise
and give you something to fear
no longer will I jump when you say
for I will be the puppeteer
