Notes About The Poem

Suzette Richards" Image Prompt Contest...21 Oct 25

Against Stain Of Night

The swivel of her skirt casts a pale silhouette around a thin frame-- her face riddled by a strange look obscured by dazzle of yellows from a moonlit skyline and lamp posts: Bright cluster of blooms dwindles against her stoic gaze, her dark blouse stained by some gauze of grief-- she walks poised ... yet anonymously alone.

Nette, You've dropped a fascinating, descriptive story into my favorite style of painting. Stained light on wet pavement. It parallels perfectly to her warm tears cascading off her introspective, melancholied cheeks. I love it and find myself taking another stroll down this incredible street!

Very descriptive of the scene. I love this picture/painting. I am thinking for a contest since I have seen more than one of these. If so, it reads like a good contender to me. Way to go. Sara K

Congratulations Nette on your second place win in my contest, Metamodern Imagism, with this poem that honours the brief to a T: layered, intentional, image-driven, and rooted in materiality. A masterclass in externalised emotion through visual choreography. It’s a poem that moves—literally and tonally. A title that’s both defiant and elegiac—perfectly tuned to the metamodern tension between poise and vulnerability.
