Notes About The Poem

Afterward

See Dick run, in the golden latterly years,
When past is gone, the future premieres.
Jane is a librarian, in the floral ruby days,
Sally is a teacher, in the tangerine phase.

Puff pursues orange butterflies in heaven,
And he and Spot frolic, in sunshine lemon.
Mother and Father reside in assisted living,
Where the blue jay to the moon is singing.

Evelyn, this is sooooo creative and enjoyable. Thanks for brightening my evening! I'm not sure you'll remember them, but I preceded Dick and Jane. I had Jim and Judy and their dog Spot.

I'm so glad to have brightened your evening, Milton. Thank you for your very nice remarks. I have fond memories of learning to read with Dick and Jane, and being delighted that I could. It would have also been fun to read about a character with my name, like the 'Judy' in your version of the reader. I have a copy of 'The New Fun With Dick and Jane,' which was given to me by my mother, who collected books. Evelyn :)

Hello, Debra. You are very welcome. In first grade, I can remember sitting in a circle with the teacher, and us pupils taking turns reading Dick and Jane. Thank you so much. Hugs
