Afterthought

A mere afterthought, A whisper of a woman, Cast away once again, Man after man finding their match, Once again I am the stand-in, There only for entertainment, As soon as they are bored, I am removed, A tumor, A curse, A placeholder A shared memory, That is our world, A series of memories between all of us, Together we watched disasters, Together we experienced violence, And together we have done so many things, Yet still our shared memory seems a world apart Is the color of my skin such a factor? Perhaps it is my language that is the problem, Or my social standing? Whatever it may be, we have experienced many things. Slowly, we watch the world die, From the noxious fumes of industry, To the poisoned water of fishing, And way past the edge of a forest cut down, Slowly we will meet, For there will be nothing left, No shared experiences, Outside of the end, We are together.
