Aftershock

Bodies strewn through my mind
Images lurk in closed lids
Dare I shutter the soul’s windows again?
Silent screams send shock waves
That ripple through my body.
Eyes strain for a faint glimmer.
Heavy hands pull at my lashes
Forcing me to face the horror.
Merciful darkness closes in.
A blank mind and nothing more.

This poem was my response to a horror story that we were supposed to write an ending to. I wrote a poem instead.
